Skilled Labourer

For nearly a decade, Hawkins Contracting Services has provided exceptional quality and service in the civil landscape industry. From playgrounds to sports fields to waterway restoration, we’ve built a reputation for excellence, honesty, and professionalism.

We’re growing rapidly throughout the province, and we always need reliable and dependable people who can get the job done.

If you love working outdoors with your hands, and want to do highly varied and interesting work in a growing company, then this is a terrific opportunity.

Skilled Labourer

As a skilled laborer you’ll be supporting our construction projects on the ground. This will involve preparing worksites, moving materials, using hand and power tools, and supporting the project Site Supervisor however you can. We want someone who is going to fit in with all our staff, many of whom have been here for years.

These are the qualities we’re looking for:

  • Reliability
  • Punctuality
  • A great teammate
  • Takes pride in a job well done

We do projects all over Ontario and beyond, so we’re going to need someone who’s willing and able to travel (with a travel allowance of course). And unlike many landscape companies, at Hawkins you can build a real career. We offer exceptional pay and great hours, and plenty of opportunity for growth and promotion.

Working With Hawkins

At Hawkins, we take health and safety seriously. That’s why we expect all our employees to prioritize a safe work environment, and why we provide additional training to make sure everyone stays safe.

We’re also a family-owned company that places a great deal of value in honest communication and family security. So while we do often have a brief seasonal layoff (from January through March), lay-offs are kept to a minimum, and we will always let you know if we’re bringing you back.

We’re not afraid to celebrate our success either: we have a great group of employees, and we like to reward them with parties, bonuses, and fun events (like golf tournaments!) for all their hard work.

The Details

This is a full-time position, with a starting hourly rate of $18-$30/hour, commensurate with ability and experience. Your start date will be immediately.

At times you will be required to spend 4-5 days a week travelling out of town, but you will always be home on weekends, and we provide a travel allowance of $50 a day plus the cost of the hotel room.

  • Experience working in the civil or landscape construction industry
  • Experience using basic hand and power tools (shovels, chainsaws, jackhammers etc.)
  • Experience working with concrete, sewer, interlock, or retaining walls
  • Verbal communication skills, and experience working in a team
  • Previous health and safety and/or first aid training is an asset
  • Physically fit and able to lift 50+ lbs
